What are Oregon Floats?Go to online gallery to see available floats

Oregon Floats are unique Glass Art creations, blown by Pyromania Glass Studio of Newport Oregon. Each one is individually hand blown with the same techniques that have been used for 2,000 years to create glass art. All Oregon Floatsare made at Pyromania Glass Studio in a celebration of the spirit of beachcombing on the Oregon Coast. Each Float has the name Pyromania and the year engraved on the plug. They are vibrant, colorful art pieces, and have proven to be very collectible and make excellent gifts.

What is Lincoln City's Float Hunt, "Finders Keepers"?

Begun in 1999 to celebrate the Millennium, the float project has become an annual tradition. There are five to seven studios collaborating in making floats for the event. Floats are "hidden" on the Lincoln City beach from mid-October through May, every year.

Who Puts Them Out?

Lincoln City has volunteers called "Float Fairies" that put the floats out on the beach of Lincoln City, from the sands north of Chinook Winds Casino, down to the Taft area. They put out approximately 70 floats per week. It's up to the individual volunteers when and where.

The floats are placed on the sand, above the high tide mark, and below the embankment. Please don't climb the rocks or vegetation! It's dangerous for you, and can lead to erosion.

How Many Will Be Put Out This Year?

In 2005, there will be 2,005 distributed. In 2006, there will be 2,006, and so on.

If you don't find a float on the beach, you can come to any of our locations and find one in the store. Yes, you have to pay for it, but you pick the one you want! Of course, you may find the float that you want right here. Just go to our Gallery to find your favorite.

What Do You Do With The Floats?

Anything you want! They're good for decorating in the home, garden, to hang from a porch, windows, trees, etc. And of course, they make unforgettable gifts.

I have specific colors / texture in mind for the float I want, but how can I find it in your store?

You can come down to the studio, and order the float you want! There is no extra charge for custom orders; however, you do need to wait a day because the floats are annealed overnight in a kiln.

Do You Ship?

Yes, all over the place. Call for rates.

If I Place An Order, How Long Will It Take To Get My Float?

Allow 2-4 weeks, but sometimes sooner.

Do You Offer Tours At The Studio?

Anyone's welcome to come in and watch from the gallery when we're open and blowing. Advance warning is nice if 20 or more people are in your group. There is always someone there to talk you through the process as you watch.

These floats have similar colors, but the texture of each is quite different, giving each of them a unique look.

These floats have the same texture, but look quite different because of the different colors of glass used.
